On September 25, OpenAI launched the Advanced Voice Mode in ChatGPT, providing an upgraded conversation experience for Plus and Team users. The mode introduces five new voices (Arbor, Maple, Sol, Spruce, and Vale), and improves the understanding of different accents and the speed of conversation , aiming to make the interaction more natural and realistic, and to get closer to human conversation by adjusting the tone, rhythm, and emphasis.
The technology behind the voice feature uses a new text-to-speech model that can generate human-like audio from a few seconds of voice samples, combined with OpenAI's Whisper speech recognition system to transcribe spoken words into text. Users can choose their favorite voice from the five provided.
In addition, OpenAI has added custom commands and memory features , allowing users to customize responses and have the system remember previous conversations to provide more personalized interactions in the future.
Currently, this feature is being widely rolled out, but the EU, UK and some other regions are not yet included in the update.
